THE DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM HONORED AT THE EMBASSY

                  On February 10, 2011, the Embassy of Lithuania hosted a ceremony to hohor Moldovian politicians, journalists, scientists and other civil society representatives who 20 years ago actively showed solidarity with Lithuanian people during the tragic events of January 13, 1991.  

In the face of Soviet aggression unarmed Lithuania people fought not only for the right to preserve Lithuania's freedom, independence and democracy. They also fought for the victory of  fundamental democratic values in the Entire Europe. "Without your continuous support we would have hardly managed to defend the freedom and independence of our homeland," reads the Letter of Gratitude by Ms. Irena Degutienė, Chairperson of Lithuanian Parliament, and prof. Vytautas Landsbergis, the first Head of State.  The Letters of Gratitude were presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Audronius Ažubalis.  

"Your actions taken and presense with us those days was a real political and information support for Lithuania," said the Minister. 

The former Heads of State of Moldova Mr. Mircea Snegur, Mr. Mihai Ghimpu, the former Speaker Mr. Alexandru Mosanu, former MPs Mr. Ion Hadirca, Pandelei Sandulachi and others,  memebers of the current Government, scientists, journalists and civils society representatives were present at the event.
