PRIME MINISTER THANKS MOLDOVA FOR RECOGNIZING LITHUANIA'S INDEPENDENCE IN 1990

On 27 of January Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius met the members of the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova (then- the Supreme Soviet) who on May 31, 1990, voted to recognize the Restoration of the Independence of Lithuania. The Parliament of Moldova was the first in the world to recognize Lithuania’s Independence. The Prime Minister expressed a deep gratitude for such a brave and honorable decision by the members of the Parliament of 1990.    

 

“Now, when your nation embarked on the Eurointegration road, Lithuania is paying back its debt of solidarity to Moldova. We supported and will support Moldova’s Eurointegration efforts,” said A.Kubilius.

 

The president of the Association “Parlamentul 90” Petru Sandulache presented the Prime Minister the copy of the Parliament's decision of May 31 to recognize the Independence of Lithuania with the original signatures of the members of that time Parliament. A.Kubilius presented the Association “Parlamentul-90” the copy of the Act of the Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence of March 11, 1990.
