Photo-documentary exhibition “War after war: anti-Soviet resistance in Lithuania, 1944-1953” opened in Sângerei
On 24 September 2020, the heroes of the anti-Soviet resistance in Lithuania and Bessarabia were commemorated at the Museum of Ethnography in Sângerei.
The event was organized on the occasion of the opening of the photo-documentary exhibition “War after war: anti-Soviet resistance in Lithuania, 1944-1953” of the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights (Vilnius).
The exhibition reflects the main stages of the heroic struggle of the Lithuanian people for freedom and presents to the general public of the Republic of Moldova testimonies, documents and images about a country and a generation that did not yield in the face of the aggression of the Soviet Empire.
Those present at the event also discussed the existence of anti-Soviet resistance groups in Bessarabia and Romania. The struggle of these groups against the communist regime was a response to forced Sovietization, political repression and mass deportations, as well as hunger and collectivization. The organizers of the exhibition came with a book donation from the series of volumes “Archives of Memory” and “Exercise of Memory”, which include testimonies of the victims of the totalitarian-communist regime in Moldavian ASSR and Moldavian SSR.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Institute of History, MECR, Centre of Excellence Institute ProMemoria of the Moldova State University and supported by the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
