On February 16, we invite you to celebrate Restoration of the State of Lithuania!
Lithuanian National Philharmonic is organizing a festive concert with the brightest fragments from Amilcare Ponchielli's opera "Lithuanians" ("I Lituani"). Webstreaming of the concert starts on February 15, 19.00. Video recording will be available till February 21. Tune in!
The famous romantic opera is based on the libretto of the Italian writer Antonio Ghislanzoni, inspired by Adam Mickiewicz's historical poem Conrad Valenrod. In 1874, the opera featuring 14th century Lithuanians' struggles for the right to be independent had its premiere at the La Scala Theater in Milano. The opera became a symbol of the Italians' own struggles for freedom, and the name of Lithuania was inscribed in the chrestomathy of world opera literature. The full opera can be viewed here (concert performance).
