LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND MOLDOVAN LEADERS DISCUSS THE EU EASTERN PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME, INVESTMENT PROJECTS IN MOLDOVA
On April 26 at the meetings with the leadership of Moldova in Chisinau, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis discussed the country’s integration into the European Union, the EU Eastern Partnership programme and close cooperation when preparing for the third Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in 2013.
Ažubalis met with President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu, Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leancă and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoacă.
Ažubalis noted that Lithuanian entrepreneurs took increased interest in the market of Moldova and expressed hope that the government of this country would favour foreign investors, also the ones from Lithuania, and welcome aspirations to develop commercial projects.
“Positive experience of Lithuanian investors in Moldova could attract more Lithuanian companies, offering the most advanced technology and working in accordance with EU standards. This would boost Moldova’s sustainable development through economic integration and would bring tangible benefits to both countries and their people,” Ažubalis said.
The meetings also discussed the progress of Moldova-EU negotiations on a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement and visa-free regime.
Conversations focused on close bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Moldova, as the countries are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Ažubalis and Mayor of Chisinau discussed possible cultural cooperation and the perpetuation of the name of Lithuania in the capital city of Moldova.
