Lithuania supports solar energy development in Moldova

Solar power plants financed by Lithuania are starting to operate in 15 Moldovan institutions - hospitals, schools, kindergartens and  cultural institutions. Their total power reaches almost 1 MW. EUR 800,000 from the Climate Change Program Fund have been allocated for these projects. The power plants will allow institutions to produce about half of the electricity they need and will save about a thousand tons of CO2.

On May 4, Ambassador of Lithuania Tadas Valionis, representatives of the Environmental Projects Management Agency and the company Solet and the president of the Lithuanian Solar Energy Association Vitas Mačiulis visited Gagauzia, where solar panels have been installed in as many as seven objects - a regional hospital, a school, etc. During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Valionis said that Lithuania is always ready to share its experience with its partners in Moldova and support their efforts to create an European state and the well-being of the population.

Renewable energy projects not only help mitigate the effects of climate change and protect the environment, but also convey Lithuania's experience on the road to energy independence. By providing support to developing countries to mitigate climate change Lithuania fulfills the obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
