LITHUANIA COMMEMORATES THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRAGIC JANUARY OF 1991

This year Lithuania commemorates the 20th anniversary of the tragic events of January 1991 when unarmed Lithuanian people defended Lithuanian Parliament, TV tower and other buildings against the Soviet agression. That was an attack not only against Lithuanian freedom, but also against the freedom and democracy in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. As Lithuania pays tribute to those who gave their lives, it also expresses its sincere gratitude to the friends in Moldova, Russia, USA, Poland, Baltic and other states whose support was essential in defending Lithuania's Freedom.   At 8 am on January 13 The Embassy took part in the civic campaign "Memory is Alive Through Testominy" by lighting the candles by the windows.   You can find more about January 13 by clicking here.
