Conference on fostering historical memory held in Chisinau
On November 1, a scientific conference “History and memory of the Transnistrian conflict: issues of reconciling communities and strengthening democratic society” took place in a mixed – in person and online – format in Chisinau.
Ambassador Kęstutis Kudzmanas delivered a keynote speech at the conference emphasizing parallels between past and current challenges for the democratic societies.
The conference aimed at promoting knowledge of history in overcoming the consequences of the armed conflict on the Nistru, and was organized within the project “Development of Recent History Studies Towards Consolidation of Civil Society and Memory Reconciliation on Both Banks of the Nistru River” with the support of the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. By investigating totalitarian and post-totalitarian regimes, the project helps young generation of Moldova, especially students, to build European memory culture, respect human rights while also increasing public awareness and developing civic consciousness in the society.
