A SERIES OF EVENTS IN CHISINAU WILL MARK THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF LITHUANIAN-MOLDOVAN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Chisinau organizes a serious of events „Two States, Two Destinies, and Two Decades of Diplomatic Relations“ to mark the 20th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Moldova. These events will present Lithuanian history, traditions, culture and will also look at the similarities and differences of Lithuanian and Moldovan history and people.
On June 19 the Embassy and the Chisinau Organ Hall organizes a concert of Lithuanian artist Dzeraldas Bidva (violine) and the Chisinau Chamber Orchestra. The concert will feature the music of A.Vivaldi, F.Mendelssohn and will take place at 18:00 at the Chisinau Organ Hall (for ticket information, please visit the Organ Hall at http: //organhall.md).
On June 21 the Embassy and the Jewish Cultural Center KEDEM organizes a joint exhibition "Lithuania - Moldova: Crossroads of Destiny". The joint exhibition consists of two – Lithuanian and Moldovan – exhibitions. "The Sounds of Silence" - an exhibition of famous Lithuanian photographer Raimondas Paknys depicts the remains of the glorious Jewish culture in Lithuania, in a land that was known for its tolerance for ethnic minorities: the architecture, the cemeteries, the synagogues, etc. "The Vanishing Visions" is a photo exhibition dedicated to the Jewish history of Moldova. An ensemble of violinists "Fiddler" will perform the music of a famous Lithuanian composer M. K.Čiurlionis and a documentary film “Litvakai” will be shown during the Opening of the Joint Exhibition at KEDEM on June 21.
On June 26 the Embassy and the Museum of Ethnography and Natural History will invite the Residents of Chisinau to the Opening of the Exhibition of Lithuanian and Moldovan national saches. Visitors of the exhibition would have a chance to compare the unique motifs and colors of Lithuanian and Modovan traditional saches, and feel the love and the beauty that was put in saches by the artists. A live making of sache using the traditional Moldovan machine and the exposition of traditional Lithuanian national costume would also be presented to the visitors of the exhibition.
Saches are used as a waist girdle in the national costume, to make women's headpieces, as bookmarks, neckties, accent pieces, and also widened into table runners. National sashe is a traditional and ancient branch of Lithuanian folk art that lately has been reviving. Sashes are produced by twisting, twining and weaving techniques. Sashes are known in Lithuania since the 4th century.
On June 29 The Embassy will organize a roundtable which will focus on the Eurointegration. The roundtable would examine if Eurointegration for Lithuania and Moldova was a choice or determination and will look at the cultural, geopolitical, identity and other issues of the Eurointegration. The roundtable will also present the priorities in the Eastern Neighbourhood during the Lithuanian Presidency in the EU.
The Embassy of Lithuania also organizes the Quiz (viktorina) about Lithuania. The main prize of the Quiz is the trip to Lithuania. The Quiz will take place until June 25. The residents of Moldova are invited to take part in the Quiz which is located at the Embassy’s webpage
