On 22 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations, Ambassador Kurt Volker. The meeting focused on security situation in Ukraine in the context of Russia's ongoing aggression against this country.

The Foreign Minister L. Linkevičius thanked the U.S. representative for strengthening U.S. sanctions against Russia and for supporting Ukraine, as well as for the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's Crimea Declaration of 25 July 2018.

"As Russia continues to pursue its destructive policy and the U.S. strengthens its response to Russia's actions in Ukraine, Syria and Western countries, the EU must also react," said L. Linkevičius. Lithuania's Foreign Minister stressed that it was equally important to continue to provide support for Ukraine, to promote the reform process and regional development, especially in the part of eastern Ukraine that remained not annexed.

The meeting also discussed proposals for deploying a UN peacekeeping force in eastern Ukraine and ways to increase the effectiveness of providing support to Ukraine.

    K. Volker took part in the President Valdas Adamkus Conference 2018 "Restoring European and Transatlantic Resilience".
