Lithuania can offer innovative solutions to Africa
On 17–18 December, the Lithuanian delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius, participated in the High-Level Forum EU-Africa in Vienna. The Forum, held by the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, was devoted to the promotion of cooperation in innovation and digitalisation.
“Lithuania can offer innovative solutions to Africa, which would open possibilities for closer intercontinental cooperation,” the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said while telling about the Lithuanian experience and input in Africa in designing electronic management systems, developing information technologies, as well as in finance technologies and cyber security.
Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo Gcon, highlighted a new Lithuanian-Nigerian initiative to train Nigerian information technology specialists in Lithuania, which would contribute to the development of digital technologies, experience sharing and education.
Participants of the Forum consisted of European and African heads of state and government, ministers, heads of European institutions, European Commissioners, representatives of African institutions, international organisations, and NGOs, CEOs of well-known companies, representatives of start-ups and innovative companies, and investors in digital technologies. The Forum was accompanied by business to business meetings and round table discussions focusing on innovations in agriculture, finance technologies, job creation, investment, sustainable energy, e-government, online trade in the digital age in Africa. Delegates from the Board of the Bank of Lithuania and NRD Companies took part in the debates and contributed with their presentations.
