Foreign Minister discusses bilateral relations with his Georgian and North Macedonian counterparts
On 5 December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov, and discussed the recent escalation of the situation along the occupation line of South Ossetia.
D. Zalkaliani noted that recent incidents – the intensification of borderization, the detention of the Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili from Tbilisi for crossing the so-called 'state border' – showed that Russia aimed to force Georgia begin formal negotiations on the regularization of the ‘border’. The Foreign Ministers also discussed topical issues concerning the organization of elections in Georgia.
Minister L. Linkevičius also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia N. Dimitrov to discuss the EU accession talks. North Macedonia is looking forward to a swift solution. N. Dimitrov invited Lithuania’s Foreign Minister to visit North Macedonia.
